How to Look After Your Global Knives

Do you know how to look after your global knives? When you have a passion for cooking it makes sense to invest in a good set of knives. And Global knives are one of the best!

But now that you’ve invested in some, how do you keep them in good nick?

From very modest beginnings Global has developed into one of the most successful brands of professional kitchen knives in the world. Still crafted by hand in Yoshikin’s factory in Niigata, Japan, Global knives have edges that are razor sharp. The blades on these knives get sharpened before you’ve even bought one – in the factory! This gets those sharp edges ready to go straight away. It’s undertaken at an angle between 10 and 15 degrees resulting in a thinner edge so some caution when using them is definitely necessary.

 

Washing

It is recommended that you wash your Global knives by hand using a mild dishwashing liquid and water. After washing, rinse with water and dry thoroughly with a towel. Global knives should NOT be put in the dishwasher and should NOT be washed with hot water. Lukewarm water will suffice. Ensure you thoroughly dry your knives to ensure they don’t rust.

 

Storage

Global recommends the use of the Global knife blocks, magnetic wall racks, knife docks or knife rolls/cases.

 

Sharpening

Did you know that you need no experience or skill to sharpen your knife? Especially if you have a Global Water Sharpeners! All you need to do is simply fill the reservoir with water and run your knife backwards and forwards a few times. The ceramic wheel pieces on the sharpener make sure the blade is on the perfect angle which makes your job super easy. Using a wooden chopping board and avoiding stone and glass surfaces will also help keep you knife sharp.

 

Did you know?

To balance their knives, Global uses a hollow handle which is then filled with just the right amount of sand to create the correct balance.
